Ken Olivier

Ken is Director of Northgate Tennis Academy in Houston, Texas. He is primary personal coach to ZAT, Champ, Super Champ and National players. His proven skill of taking kids through the levels is evident in the players he coaches. Ken's daughter Sheri Olivier is on full tenis scholarship at Texas A&M University and will be a sophomore in 2009/2010.

 Ken has 20 years experience teaching and coaching tennis players and was selected as USTA national coach for 12, 14, and 16s boys and girls. He has coached over 100 USTA sactioned tournament winners and has extensive experience working with juniors and adults. Ken has worked with world class coaches including Rick Macci, Russell Seymour, Sammy Giammalva, Fred Kniffen, Carmack Berryman and Vic Braden.  

Ken is a national collegiate champion in singles and doubles, 4-time All-American, national amateur champion and obtained a final national collegiate ranking of #1 in singles and doubles while on full tennis scholarship, NAIA 1989. He was world ranked (ATP)  in singles and doubles on the pro tour.

Competed in professional satellite tournaments in New York, made the main draw in doubles, last round qualifying singles, 1984.

Ranked #3 in San Diego in Men's singles behind Randy Nixon and Michael Chang, 1985.

Finalist in $7,000 prize money tournament in Mexicali, Mexico by defeating Alejandra Hernandez in the Semifinals, 1985.

San Diego District Men's Open Champion 1985.

USTA National Amateur Singles Champion, San Diego CA 1985.

Tournament winner of San Diego City College prize money tournament; defeating Mark Tappen in Finals, 1985.

Men's Open 2nd place at San Diego Tribune Tournament, 1985.

Received first ATP world ranking in singles by qualifying in satellite tournaments in Waco, Tyler and Arkansas, 1987.

Preseason national ranking #1 in the nation NCAA II, 1987.

Texas A&M Commerce undefeated against NCAA division one schools. Dual match record of 17-2, 1987.

Trained with Jennifer Capriati, Tommy Ho, Will Bull, Vemal Patel, Tobias Svantesson, Shelby Cannon, Jimmy Brown and Joey Blake. 1988.

Tentative Florida Men¡¦s open ranking #3 in singles, 1988.

Competed in pro events in Maryland, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Hawaii qualifying in several tournaments, 1988.

Received ATP World ranking of 908 by defeating Mark Knowles, Chris Garner in pro tennis doubles Hawaii, 1988.

Semifinalist in Maryland $20,000 prize money tournament losing to eventual winner Christian Bergstrom (#70 in the world). Made Finals of doubles with partner Jimmy Brown losing to Howard Herr (#425 Doubles, Durbin South Africa) and Barry Moir  (#163 Republic South Africa), 1988.

Won pre-qualifying tournament (128 draw) to enter Grand Prix qualifying event in Newark New Jersey,1988.

Won two rounds in Grand Prix Qualifier beating Howard Endelman #660 in the world  and Chris Kennedy ranked #325 in the world before losing to Thomas Hogstedt of Sweden ranked #245. 1988.

Returned to college tennis on a full tennis scholarship to The University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler, TX 1989.

Completed collegiate tennis career at The University of Texas at Tyler by winning the coveted Triple Crown, 1989.

NAIA National Champion in singles (264 draw/single elimination), Kansas City, MS 1989.

NAIA National Champion in doubles (128 draw/single elimination). Kansas City, MS, 1989.

Assisted in coaching nationally ranked junior tennis players at Rick Macci Tennis Academy in Haines City, FL 1987-88.

Coached advanced juniors at Clemson University tennis camp with Chuck Kriese, South Carolina, 1989.

Assisted Head Collegiate Coach with developing nationally ranked collegiate players in preparation for tournament competition, The University of Texas at Tyler, TX 1990.

Primary coach for 15-20 junior tennis players that competed in sectional USTA tournaments and high school tennis. Tyler Tennis and Swim Club. Responsible for practices, tournament coaching, players sign up for tournaments, travel arrangements, travel and supervise players in preparation for competition. Tyler, TX 1990-91.
